  • Mucarsel-Powell is joining with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) on a new TV spot. Per the Mucarsel-Powell campaign, the “bold new TV ad” scathes “Florida’s ultimate political snake.”

  • In proof of dedication to the serpentine imagery, the challenger’s operation accuses the Naples Republican of “slithering away” from debate challenges in a press release pumping the paid media, which is part of an “eight-figure buy.”

  • The ad says Scott is “Florida’s biggest snake” who “stole money from seniors in the biggest Medicare fraud ever” then “slid into the Senate, where he wrote the plan to end Social Security, raise your taxes, and ban abortion.”

  • Rick Scott’s a slippery politician who’s been ripping you off. I’m Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, and I approve this message — because your family’s getting squeezed, and it’s time for a senator with a spine,” Mucarsel-Powell says in the close.

  • The belief is that Mucarsel-Powell has a unique and durable appeal to “younger, Latino, and Black voters,” and “offers Democrats a solution to the challenges they’ve faced with one of Florida’s largest electorates: the Latino population.”

  • “From her compelling personal story that nips the socialism attack in the bud to her consistent appearances on Spanish language media, Mucarsel-Powell can mobilize Latino voters in Florida unlike any candidate running for Senate this cycle,” said Campaign Manager Ben Waldon.

  • The Mucarsel-Powell campaign teamed with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) to release a new 30-second ad on Tuesday that depicts Scott as a real-live snake.

  • The ad debuts as Mucarsel-Powell takes to the road this week. She is scheduled to appear in St. Petersburg on Tuesday to discuss the property insurance crisis in Florida.

  • According to a memo published by Mucarsel-Powell’s campaign manager Ben Waldon, “Public opinion research conducted by Global Strategy Group from October 2-6 shows that Mucarsel–Powell’s advertisements are breaking through.

  • Former U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, the Democrat challenging Scott, released what may be the most attention-grabbing Florida political ad of the year on Tuesday.

  • At the moment she utters his name, the reptile’s head — Scott’s head — comes into view. The snake-with-Scott’s-head then slithers around, including stops at the U.S. Capitol and in the hall of a medical clinic as Mucarsel-Powell offers her assessment of Scott’s position on issues.

  • Her ad, entitled “Disaster,” started running after Helene battered parts of Florida’s Big Bend and ravaged other states.

  • Democrats have also been depicting Scott as a climate-change denier.

  • Voters are concerned with storm, climate and insurance issues.

  • “Rick Scott’s high unfavorability numbers and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s unique strength as a candidate have quickly made the Florida Senate race the best, fastest-moving opportunity for Democrats to pick up a Senate seat,” he wrote.
