Debbie Mucarsel-Powell Slams Rick Scott For Failing To Condemn GOP-Led Attacks Against Haitian Migrants

Miami, FL – While Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and other top GOP extremists continue to spout dangerous, racially motivated attacks against America’s Haitian community over the past several weeks, Rick Scott has repeatedly refused to disavow these false claims – spreading disinformation and hateful rhetoric that’s led to threats of violence toward Haitian immigrants.

Last week, Scott made it clear that he’d rather bow down to his extremist allies than stand up for our nation’s Haitian-American community. When directly asked what he thought about Donald Trump's claims of Haitian migrants eating pets in Ohio, his response was: “I don't know exactly what's happening in Springfield, but some people don't like it."

In response, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell released the following statement:

“Rick Scott should be ashamed of himself. Instead of addressing the ongoing crisis in Haiti, working to stop the smuggling of weapons out of our ports, and focusing on ending the violence and instability, Rick Scott is continuing to spread disinformation with these baseless, hateful, and racist attacks on Haitian immigrants. Florida’s Haitian-American community deserves a leader who will stand up and fight for them, not one who abandons them for his own political gain. I stand with our Haitian community here in Florida, in Ohio, and across the country, and in the Senate, I will work to advocate for freedom, safety, and democracy for Haiti.”
