Debbie Mucarsel-Powell Statement on Apalachee High School Shooting

Miami, FL – Today, in response to the shooting at Apalachee High School in northern Georgia, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell released the following statement:

“Today, I am praying for the students and families in the Apalachee High School community. This is not normal: Not even a month after the start of the new school year, and again lives have been horrifically cut short by gun violence. Our students should be excited for the opportunities and possibilities of their education, not traumatized and fearful because of politicians who refuse to protect them.”

“We are not powerless in this crisis. I lost my own father to gun violence — I miss him every day and he’s why I will always fight to make sure no one else suffers the loss I’ve felt. We must choose change, and though we can never bring back those who were killed today, we can prevent future gun violence from senselessly taking more lives.”
